Dark Side of the Moon
I’m teaching a unit on the moon in Science.
I taught History last year.
I don’t think I would have made it through this time around the sun.
So, I’m grateful.
I play the Artemis II footage.
We saw the dark side of the moon so clearly!
The crew, before signing out, told us they love us.
There’s still good here and I can confidently see it and share it.
I am brought to tears over strangers, who are not strangers at all,
sharing their love of humanity.
All the while, threats of genocide aim to break us.
Try to pull us under so we can’t breathe.
But. We’ve seen the dark side of the moon.
We know truth.
That at the core of everything worth living for, worth sacrificing for, there is love.
Even in the face of darkness.
We know our capacity for human achievement rooted firmly in love.
There is no going back.
